So, DH had RNY (laproscopic) yesterday.  Has been up multiple times to walk since then.  No gas has been passed, he feels so much pressure.  Nurse keeps saying to just keep walking.  Any suggestions?  Were you given any meds to help gas pass?

(he has belched a lot since yesterday, but no farting)

(wow, I thought we talked about personal things on fertility message boards.

Thank you for any help,

Whitney

I was not given any meds...and the pain was excruciating!!  Have him keep walking....that is what helped me the most.  I am sure others can suggest a WLS friendly gas med though.

Good luck!

My doctor said belching is as good as farting!  So long as the gas they used to inflate the stomach is getting out he was happy.  Keep walking and he will fart. :-)

Belching is better than nothing! Just keep him up and walking whenever he feels up to it.

If he is at home already you can try giving him the GasX strips, they worked for me, but I have heard others say that they did nothing for them, so I think it is kind of hit and miss, can't hurt to try though?

If it has settled into a specific spot you can try a heating pad, keep it set to low if its going over the incisions though, I would think too much heat would make them hurt? I got it up in one of my shoulders (pretty common) and a heating pad on my shoulder worked wonders for me.

Tell him to hang in there, and you do too!

Yep Gas X is the trick to getting rid of some of it, but the more you move around and walk the better off you are for two reasons, the gas and it also lessens the chances of blood clots.  So get him up and make him walk around about every half hour,  I was lucky enough to not have too much pain after surgery, but this is man we are talking about....so I understand.

Good Luck.
